At Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School, we are committed to supporting the next generation of sculptors and increasing access to professional artistic development opportunities. Through our scholarship program, we offer a range of scholarships for emerging young artists, artists with disability and other access barriers, and students wishing to undertake specialised study opportunities. These scholarships are designed to help talented individuals develop their artistic practice, build skills, and engage with our vibrant sculptural community. Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School and Creative City of Sydney Youth and Accessibility Scholarships
These scholarships are professional artistic development opportunities for those who:
- Are an emerging artist aged 18-25yrs with a particular interest in sculpture AND/OR
- Artists with disability, chronic illness, neurodivergence, or other long-term access barriers who have a promising artistic direction and interest.
Applications will be judged on artistic merit, career intentions, artistic background, and other relevant information. Applicants must provide proof of age and, where relevant, documentation confirming eligibility for the Accessibility Scholarship (e.g. disability concession card, NDIS documentation, or a statement from a treating professional).
The application is for a full scholarship to a term of the Sculpture Workshop at the Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School. The workshop runs for 3 hours per week over a 10-week term.
Sculpture workshops involve hands-on studio activities. We welcome discussions about access requirements and will work with successful applicants to identify reasonable adjustments and supports wherever possible.
Support workers are welcome to attend if required.
Life Study Scholarship
Applicants are also welcome to apply for a full scholarship to a Life Study class. This intensive life study class offers students the unique opportunity to make a study of the nude, working in clay to later transfer into plaster.
The human body is one of the most challenging, eloquent and time-honoured subjects for the exploration of artistic expression. This class challenges students to create work that goes beyond merely accurately representing the body. The main objective of this class is to support students in developing a truly personal sculptural language – a language that can borrow from the whole spectrum of artistic expression from realism to abstraction.
Value of Scholarship
The fees for the scholarship are provided by donors and a serious commitment is expected by prospective recipients
The value of this scholarship is $695, or the equivalent cost for a Life Study class. Up to TWO applicants can be accepted per term. There is scope for extending the scholarship to another term. Beyond this students may be eligible for a 50% discount through the School. Support workers are accommodated if needed.
Accessibility
Our Studio is wheelchair accessible via our roller door, and we have a wheelchair accessible bathroom. If you would like to visit our Studio to check suitability, please get in touch via our office.
